Application of OT (Scope of OT)

Individuals who have a physical disability and mental disability receive occupational therapy services in a variety of settings, like:

1. In-Patient – IPD
   

2. Outpatient – OPD
   

3. Community-based
   

4. Home-based
   

5. School-based
   

6. Worksite therapy

The environment in which OT intervention takes place is referred to as a practice setting.

Factors that affect OT services are –

1. Government regulations
   

2. The economic status of the patient
   

3. Workplace pressure
   

4. The staff and patient cultures.
   

5. Length of stay of the patient.

Scopes –

In-Patient-

clients in the settings typically having medical conditions leads to hospitality.

The following are three general rules for occupational therapists:

• Education regarding safety, precautions and activity analysis.
  

• Initiation of rehabilitation services.
  

• Concentration – family counselling, discharge environment, related to clients' needs.

2. Outpatient setting – 

It is provided in hospitals and clinics. Clients in this situation are medically stable and able to travel and participate in a few hours of therapy. In this setting, therapy is administered on a daily to weekly basis.

3. Worksite area –

Occupational therapists are typically hired by businesses to provide general exercise programs to their workers or employees. For example, back safety programs are related to ideal posture, energy conservation techniques, work simplification, etc. 

4. Community-based settings –

Occupational therapy services are given to clients in natural, physical, social and cultural environments. This service not only speeds skill acquisition and habit formation but also the engagement of the patient in some. Examples – residential care, assisting living units.
